Information on Herbs & SpicesOur Reflections

This experience at Sungei Buloh is one that I will never forget. I have learned so much since August and I hope it will help spread the reforestation message farther this time. At the beginning, I did not know very much about Sungei Buloh and I just thought it was another nature reserve. I was very wrong. Through many of the workshops I took, I began to see the real beauty of the wetlands around me. Not only did I learn about the wetlands but about how to draw specific plants and how to be confident when preaching to a large group of people. We also learned how to create proper slideshows in Microsoft PowerPoint. Now, I want to spread the message of reforestation even farther than it has ever gone. There is a real threat to these wetlands and we have to help restore them. Sungei Buloh is a wonderful wetland reserve and it is the only one in Singapore. This program has definitely been memorable and I encourage more schools and children to join in the wonderful learning experience.

SUNGEI BULOH EXPERIENCE

My experience from Sungei Buloh has been incredible. I’m always eager to help endangered places or places that might start to disappear. I enjoyed all aspects of the reforestation project, from learning all the tips on speeches to the planting of the spices in the spice garden. I do hope of all the accomplishments we've done will go in good use and people will start to respect nature better or at least do something to help it. The experience could be improved if we all got to go out and study all the types of plants and animals and special features of Sungei Buloh (more time outdoors). Even on the ground when you are walking you would see an insect, though I must warn you to watch out for spiders because they're everywhere! Besides that I hope more people will help the environment.

The reforestation activity we did was a really good experience. I didn't know we were going to plant from potted plants instead of seeds. So I was a bit shocked, and the night before I was thinking...

how long is it going to take for the seeds to grow? By doing this planting activity, I learned that it's actually pretty hard, and it takes a long time. When I watched people plant things I was thinking...Gee, that's easy, I can do it faster then they can! I think making the hole was a bit hard for Dara and me. We're small and the shovel was half our size and probably half our weight. We had to hold on to it, which made our aiming unstable, so it made our hole a mess. It took us a while until we finally got somewhere. We weren't able to do much, because just digging the hole took hours. Overall it was a great experience.
