Sungei Buloh Master Plan Exhibition
19 June to 1 August 2010
The Draft Master Plan for Sungei Buloh was first announced by Senior Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong at Sungei Buloh’s 15th anniversary in December
2008. Since then, a working group, comprising representatives from Nature
Society Singapore, the Singapore Environment Council, National University of Singapore, National Institute of Education, PUB, Ministry of Education and Sungei Buloh volunteers, had worked on the detailed plan for Sungei Buloh.
Under the Master Plan, conservation of the wetland’s rich biodiversity will be strengthened, while its outdoor learning and education facilities will be enhanced. In time to come, visitors can look forward to new amenities, programmes and activities to cater to all groups, from students, families, nature lovers to researchers.
A public exhibition on the Master Plan, launched by Ms Grace Fu, Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education, is held at the Visitor Centre from now until 1 August 2010.
Come down to Sungei Buloh today to view the exhibits!

The
SUN Club programme is founded on the idea of ‘nature for
everyone’. It aims to bring nature appreciation to students
with special needs through tailor-made projects developed
in consultation with special schools.
Initiated by NParks and launched on 3 October 2006, the
SUN Club programme is supported by a sponsorship from Singapore
Press Holdings Foundation (SPH Foundation). It is a community
partnership project that also involved the National Council
of Social Service (NCSS) and five special schools that pioneered
the programme with us.
SUN Club participants will visit some of Singapore's most
fascinating nature areas with trained guides: the Sungei
Buloh Wetland Reserve, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Pulau
Ubin and Pasir Ris Park. They will bring home fond memories
of Singapore's biodiversity, and gain an understanding as
to how they too, have a critical link in the web of life.
We welcome special schools who are interested to give their
students a SUN Club experience to contact us at: info@sbwr.org.sg or tel: 67041401.

A project by 'Nature Nurtures'
This patchwork fabric is lovingly hand-made by students,
teachers and volunteers at Sungei Buloh in celebration of
World Environment Day. A project by NParks, Shell Eastern
Petroleum Pte Ltd and Chestnut Drive Secondary School in 2008, it
features the diversity of wildlife and patterns of nature
at the Wetland Reserve. It reminds us that there is still
precious biodiversity in our nature reserves and we hold
the future of these species in our hands.
Nature Nurture is a mentorship programme for
secondary school students. Initiated by NParks and sponsored
by Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd., it brings mentors and
mentees on a journey of discovery through nature-based activities.

| Nature Nurtures is a joint initiative by the National Parks Board and Shell Petroleum Pte Ltd. It aims to motivate teens to contribute positively to society, through skills that physically and mentally challenge them, and activities that are based on confidence and team building, in a nature setting. In 2009, this programme involved 20 students from NorthLight School together with volunteers from Shell and SBWR participating in various activities such as coastal clean-up and recycled glass painting.
